HEALTH  & WELLNESS DEPARTMENT

"Health is a Human Right, not a privilege to be purchased."

- Shirley Chisholm

Strategic Focus

The BAF believes that one's health is the most important priority an individual has. Therefore, the BAF will offer all members free universal healthcare through our hospitals and clinics! How can we achieve this? The BAF will partner with established hospitals that serve majority Black patients and build independent hospitals and clinics with state-of-the-art medical equipment and technology. It will also pay the salaries of the doctors, nurses and support staff at its independent hospitals and clinics out of the Health & Wellness Department's annual budget. As a result, BAF members without insurance will receive treatment at BAF hospitals and clinics free of charge regardless of the procedure.

BAF Members with health insurance will be billed accordingly. However, the BAF will provide access to medical care and procedures not covered by their health insurance if necessary, regardless of cost or complexity. How can the BAF achieve this??? Simple. BAF members paid for the hospitals and pay the salaries of the doctors, nurses, and support staff through their membership contributions. So why would we need to charge members again for services their membership contribution is already paying for? This is the power of the BAF's model of collective economics.

The BAF will prioritize our health services based on need and urgency. Our hospitals and clinics will focus on preventative healthcare, and services will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This includes our Dental Clinics. Furthermore, the BAF will employ an all-Black medical staff as recent studies, including a 2018 study by the Harvard Business Review revealed that having a Black doctor led Black people to receive more effective treatment for a host of reasons, one being increased comfortability and understanding of cultural practices as related to diagnosis and treatment.

Free Universal Healthcare For All BAF Members!

“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhumane.”

- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Out of everything we are taxed for or spend our money on, nothing is more important than our health, and the health of our family. The BAF understands this and will offer all BAF members free universal healthcare based on our capacity.

During the first 5 years, the BAF will build at least 5 regional hospitals and fund total operating costs, including salaries for doctors, nurses, and support staff. The overwhelming majority of hospital staff will be Black American, which studies show extends the lives of Black patients, sometimes by as much as 20 years. Since BAF membership contributions will cover 100% of all hospital costs, there is no need for us to charge BAF members for any service you receive - you already paid! However, we will charge BAF members with insurance the standard price for services. Yet, the BAF will provide any desired service or operation that a members' insurance company refuses to pay for with no additional charge to the member.

New Regional Hospitals

In the first 5 years the BAF seeks to build 5 regional hospitals, one in each of the BAF's 5 regions. Each hospital will be 100% owned and operated by the BAF and will feature state-of-the-art equipment and technology. BAF hospitals will also be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our regional hospitals will be capable of accommodating virtually any type of surgery, and if they cannot, we will import doctors/equipment that can. Our hospitals will take the most serious cases first, but seek to accommodate all members in a timely manner.

The BAF will staff its hospitals with the best Black doctors, nurses and support staff available, and will create training programs to ensure that we maintain the highest quality medical professionals available. In addition, the BAF hospitals will operate a teaching program and recruit the brightest new Black doctors graduating from medical school.

In addition to practicing Western medicine, the BAF regional hospitals will also incorporate non-traditional, complementary medical approaches with proven results for people of African descent. The BAF's hospitals will all also provide research on diseases that primarily affect Black people.

Free Dental

Clinics

The BAF will establish 25 new Dental Clinics throughout the country and employ 100 Dentists!

Proper dental hygiene is a critical component to one's overall health. A healthy smile is also a critical component to one's self-esteem. Many mainstream health insurance policies do not offer dental insurance or adequate dental insurance. And many Black people, even those with jobs, cannot afford many treatments that are deemed "cosmetic."

All BAF members will receive free dental care at our dental clinics. This includes cosmetic dentistry for extreme cases and many other procedures not traditionally covered by dental insurance. BAF members with dental insurance will be billed accordingly. However, BAF dental clinics will provide any treatment not covered by a member's dental insurance free of charge.

We want to see you smile!
