According to the most recent American Community Survey, the Black population in Illinois is 1,951,681 and make up 15.4% of the total population in Illinois ranking 7th in the nation for total number of Blacks in a state. Cook County is 24% Black with Chicago ranking 54th in the nation in terms of the largest percentage of the total population in a city identifying as Black at 29%. Chicago ranks 4th in terms of the city with the largest Black population in the US overall.
