RESTORING OUR CULTURAL VALUES, LEARNING OUR REAL HISTORY, EMBRACING OUR IDENTITY
The Black Achievement Fund is proud to announce the launching our own Rites of Passage program for all 5 phases of life: birth, adolescence/youth, adulthood/marriage, becoming and elder, and becoming an ancestor. We are beginning with our youth and adult components. We know that there are many organizations that have Rites of Passage programs and we are seeking to partner with as many as we can to expand this practice within our community. If you know of any Rites of Passage programs that you think we should connect with please email Arkee Hodges at arkee@baf.solutions.

The BAF Rites of Passage program is designed to provide participants with a set of core African values and knowledge that will guide them towards success in all spheres of life.

Restoring Our Cultural Values

One of the primary objectives of the Black Achievement Fund's Rites of Passage program is to restore African values within our community.  In order for us to build the world we want to live in, there must be a proper value system to guide the behavior of those amongst us. African people created societies and civilizations governed by shared values, not laws.  This very distinction characterizes the African world view as it relates to matters of humanity.  Through Rites of Passage program we will instill core African values such as honor, respect, discipline, kindness, integrity and hard work. We will also study the evolution of African spirituality, which is ultimately the guiding force behind the creation and adoption of these values.

Learning Our True History

"The greatest weapon in the hands of the oppressor, is the minds of the oppressed."

- Steve Biko

BAF's Rites of Passage program includes an educational component for all members, led by BAF President and historian, Arkee Hodges. As a BAF member, you receive free access to Education for Life's Academy's Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants African history curriculum. Through our Rites of Passage Program, participants will also be privy to the special "Missing Pages Of World History" Lecture Series in honor of Dr. John Henrik Clarke. This 10-week lecture series begins African history with the origins of humanity in Africa over 200,000 years ago, as opposed to slavery. This not-to-miss lecture series provides illuminating images, videos, maps, timelines, documentaries, DNA evidence, and more.

Embracing Our Identity

Africa is the motherland of all African people throughout the Diaspora. In fact, Africa is the birthplace of all humanity and the "cradle of civilization." Africa is also still the richest continent on the planet in minerals and resources. So why are Black Americans still ashamed to have any association with Africa? Our Rites of Passage program will engage this question and present Africa and African history in a new light.
