Haitian Revolution Documentary Screening & Discussion

On Friday, February 28, 2020 from 6:30pm - 9:00 pm the BAF will host a special screening of a powerful documentary on the Haitian Revolution. If you are in the Atlanta metropolitan area or know someone who is please come out pass along the invite!

The Haitian Revolution (1791 - 1804) was the only successful slave revolution in the Western Hemisphere. Led by the charismatic political genius Toussaint Louverture, high vodou priest Dutty Boukman, and military genius Jean-Jacques Dessalines. Together, the enslaved Africans on the island of Haiti resolved that they would rather fight and die instead of remain slaves for life. For over a decade they waged a brutal, yet successful war against France, including defeating Napoleon! In the process they also out maneuvered both Spain and Britain from conquering the island. Because of their astonishing success, Haiti has been punished by European powers ever since. This is the reason why Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. It is also the reason why the Haitian Revolution is not taught in virtually any public school in America. Come join us for an empowering evening as we make the most of the last day of Black History Month!
