REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT & INVESTMENT DEPARTMENT
YEAR 1 BUDGET: $200 MILLION

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE:
The Real Estate Development and Investment Department is focused on acquiring collectively owned land to advance the long-term mission of BAF. Our goals include:
-
Developing new Black residential communities designed for safety, prosperity, and cultural connection.
-
Building Black-owned institutions—K–12 schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, dental clinics, cultural centers, museums, and more.
-
Creating BAF villages, towns, and cities that celebrate African Diasporic culture and reflect our mission and Guiding Principles.
-
Generating sustainable revenue to fund the continued growth of BAF programs and services.
-
Building wealth for BAF members through strategic, private real estate investment opportunities.

SOLUTION 2. BUILD NEW BLACK INSTITUTIONS
At BAF, we believe the Black community should lead in creating and sustaining its own social institutions, rather than relying on others.
As part of our long-term development strategy, BAF is committed to establishing Black-owned and controlled institutions, including:
-
Hospitals & Medical Testing Facilities
-
Dental Clinics
-
K–12 Schools
-
Colleges & Universities, including Medical & Law Schools
-
Community Centers
-
Parks
-
Museums
These institutions will improve quality of life, foster self-determination, and create thousands of meaningful jobs within Black communities—strengthening both culture and economic opportunity.
SOLUTION 3. ESTABLISH NEW VILLAGES, TOWNS & CITIES!
Building Self-Determined Black Communities
The ultimate goal of our Real Estate Development & Investment Department is to acquire the land necessary to establish new villages, towns, and cities across the U.S. By creating our own municipalities, we gain full control over the political, economic, and social life of the communities where we live. This empowers us to:
-
Elect our own Mayor and City Council
-
Appoint judges and prosecutors
-
Hire police officers and ensure community safety
-
Construct and manage courthouses and correctional facilities
-
Collect property taxes to fund essential local services
-
Maintain and enhance infrastructure, including water, sewage, streets, and public spaces
-
Own and oversee key institutions, such as schools, hospitals, museums, community centers, and more
-
Build and operate vital facilities, including airports, stadiums, and arenas
By controlling these institutions and systems, we create self-sustaining, culturally grounded communities that reflect our values, priorities, and vision for prosperity.

SOLUTION 4: CREATE THOUSANDS OF JOBS THROUGH TRAINING & REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT
6. CREATE THOUSANDS OF JOBS THROUGH TRAINING & REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT
Through BAF’s Real Estate Development & Investment Department, we will create thousands of high-paying jobs in real estate, construction, and related fields for Black professionals.
We will also invest millions of dollars with Black developers, contractors, and skilled tradespeople, including electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, roofers, framers, carpenters, concrete and asphalt specialists, architects, master planners, civil engineers, land surveyors, real estate agents, brokerage firms, and more.
This initiative ensures that economic opportunity remains within the community, empowering Black individuals to gain valuable skills, build wealth, and contribute to the development of thriving, self-sustaining neighborhoods.
SOLUTION 1. BUY LAND/BUILD NEW COMMUNITIES
CURRENT PROJECT: NU KEMET RETREAT & RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY
Here's How We're Solving the Problem
LANDOWNERSHIP
159 members across 22 states donated an average of $40 a month for 24 months to purchase our first 6 acres outright with no mortgage, with an additional 3 acres generously donated—laying the foundation for our vision of collectively owned Black communities.
CURRENT PROJECT: NU KEMET RETREAT & RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY
Our flagship initiative is the 112-acre Nu Kemet Retreat & Residential Community in Toomsboro, GA, with the Black Achievement Fund collectively owning 9 acres within the site. Once complete, the community will feature 45 A-frame pyramid-style private homes, a clubhouse, a produce farm, and more.
Nu Kemet is designed to be a model Black community that showcases cultural pride, sustainable living, and self-determination. It will inspire others to create thriving, culturally grounded communities across the country.
