First Days of Construction: Site Prep - Grading & Leveling the Land

The first days of construction are officially underway at the Nu Kemet Retreat, Residential Community & Glamping Village, and the land is coming to life. Following a powerful and historic groundbreaking ceremony, our construction team has begun the essential process of site preparation—grading and leveling the land to make way for roads, foundations, and future homes. This phase may not be glamorous, but it’s one of the most critical steps in the building process.

Grading and leveling ensure that each lot is properly prepared for building—providing the stability, drainage, and structure needed for safe, long-lasting development. As heavy machinery reshapes the terrain, we are literally and symbolically preparing the ground for legacy. These early movements represent more than dirt and earthwork—they signal real progress, where vision meets reality. Nu Kemet is rising, and we’re thrilled to document every stage of this powerful journey toward collective Black ownership, wellness, and excellence.
